The work evokes warm nights from her childhood in Brazil, where the air was filled with the hum of crickets and tiny island creatures. The patterns flow in squiggly, organic lines with black spots and golden tones, creating an earthy, tribal energy that feels alive and connected to the ground itself. Part of her ongoing Sounds of Nature series, this piece explores the relationship between sound and sight through Helena’s synesthetic perception. Visual Sound: Katydid was exhibited in London on October 18 for In My Mind’s Eye—a workshop and documentary exploring perception, identity, and sensory diversity, including synesthesia.
